Every UAE business searching for e-invoicing answers this year lands on the same question: what is an ASP — and do I already have one inside my accounting software?
The short answer: an accredited service provider is the licensed gateway between your invoices and the Federal Tax Authority. No ASP, no compliant invoice. But the part most guides skip is how you get one — because there are three very different models, and they are not equal.
What an ASP actually does
An ASP is a company approved by the Ministry of Finance to:
- Validate your invoice against the PINT-AE specification before it travels
- Digitally sign it and transmit it over the Peppol network to the FTA
- Report back delivery status, rejections and errors
- Support the retention duties the mandate imposes on in-scope businesses
We cover the mechanics in depth in our Peppol workflow and FTA registry guide and the ASP vs e-invoicing software explainer. What matters here is simpler: the ASP is where compliance actually happens. Everything else — your ERP, your invoicing tool, your spreadsheets — is just data going in.
The three ways to get an ASP
1. Bundled inside accounting software
Vendors like Zoho, Wafeq and Tally market "e-invoicing" inside their suites. Under the hood, the submission still has to run through an accredited ASP — either one the vendor operates or a third party it integrates with.
The questions to ask: which accredited ASP carries my invoice, is it named in my contract, and is that cost inside my subscription or an add-on? With bundled models, businesses often discover the ASP layer is a separate commercial relationship — or worse, that the vendor is "ready" rather than accredited. "Ready" is not a compliance status; only accreditation is.
2. Standalone ASP contract
Enterprise-grade accredited providers — the names on the official list — sell the submission layer directly. This works for large organisations with an ERP team that can build and maintain the integration, but it leaves you assembling the stack yourself: invoice generation, validation tooling, the ASP and the monitoring. Two vendors minimum, usually three.
3. Platform with a direct accredited ASP
This is the model TrustBill runs: one platform that generates, validates and manages your invoices, with submission handled through Microvista Technologies — an FTA-accredited service provider — included in your plan. One contract, one price, one support channel. The accredited path is not an integration you bolt on later; it is the rails the product is built on.
Side-by-side
| Software-bundled | Standalone ASP | Direct ASP platform | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who signs and submits | A third-party ASP behind the scenes | The ASP you contract | The accredited ASP inside the platform |
| Contracts to manage | Software + often a separate ASP | ASP + your invoice tooling | One |
| Validation before submit | Depends on the software's mapping | Your responsibility | Built in — the same spec the ASP enforces |
| Failure resolution | Software vendor ↔ ASP finger-pointing | Your integration team | One vendor owns the whole path |
| Price transparency | ASP fees often add-on or volume-based | Quoted per provider | Included in the plan |
Five questions to ask any vendor
- Which accredited ASP carries my invoice? Get the entity name, not the marketing name — and verify it on the official list.
- Is the ASP named in my contract? If it is not written down, it is not guaranteed.
- Is the ASP cost inside my subscription? Ask for the all-in number per invoice, per month.
- What happens when a submission is rejected? Who investigates, and how fast do you find out?
- What do I see before I commit? A serious provider can show you the validation surface — for example, the 130-field requirements explorer that shows exactly which FTA catalog fields are mandatory, conditional or optional for your invoice type.
Which model fits you
- SME issuing its first invoices: direct ASP platform. One vendor, one bill, compliance built in.
- Accounting firm running client books: platform or partnership — our ASP partnership programme is built for exactly this.
- Enterprise with an ERP team: standalone ASP can work — but insist on the same five questions and a named provider. Our guide to verifying an FTA approved ASP walks the verification checklist, and how to choose an accredited provider covers the selection criteria.
The mandate does not care whose logo is on your software — it cares whose accredited rails carry the invoice. Choose the model where that answer is in writing. See TrustBill pricing or talk to the team about your phase.
